Trust & safety
Platform policies
The rules that keep parcels, senders and travelers safe — and the money trail honest. Operations can adjust pricing and policy values from the admin console without a deploy.
Prohibited & restricted items
- •Prohibited outright: cash, narcotics, weapons, live animals and perishable food cannot be shipped through BoxyDart.
- •Restricted by transport mode: a flight traveler cannot carry liquids, batteries or flammable goods; bike trips cap dimensions tightly.
- •Restricted by traveler: travelers declare what they will and will not carry when publishing a trip. Those exclusions are enforced in matching.
- •Every parcel declares a category. Declaring a false category is a policy violation and disputes raised against misdeclared parcels are rejected.
Payments, escrow and payouts
- •The amount is captured when you pay and held (escrow) until delivery verification. The traveler is paid from that held amount.
- •For crowdshipping, the receiver shares a 6-digit delivery code with the traveler. Only after the code is verified does the payout release.
- •For standard courier, the carrier's delivery confirmation triggers settlement automatically.
- •Every hold, release and refund is written to an append-only ledger. Corrections are new compensating entries — history is never rewritten.
- •Demo environments run a simulated payment provider. Simulated escrow is labelled everywhere it appears and no real funds move.
Cancellation, refunds and disputes
- •Cancellation is free before the pickup stage. After pickup, a cancellation fee applies (a percentage of the shipment value with a minimum fee) and the balance is refunded.
- •If a traveler cancels their trip, every affected booking is refunded in full and the sender is offered standard courier options.
- •A shipment already in transit can only be cancelled by operations after review.
- •Disputes freeze settlement. Operations review the timeline, chat with both parties and either refund the sender, release the payout, split the amount or reject the claim.
Location & identity privacy
- •A traveler's live location is shared only with the participants of an active shipment, only while the parcel is in transit, and never on trip search pages.
- •Delivery codes are stored only as salted HMAC digests, expire after a short window and lock after repeated failed attempts.
- •KYC documents live in restricted storage. Only the owner and authorized operations can open them, and every access is logged.
- •Platform staff never ask for your delivery code. Share it only after the parcel is physically in your hands.
Damage, loss and liability
- •Declare an accurate value for valuable parcels. Claims above the platform coverage limit require declared value and photographs at handoff.
- •The handoff protocol (verify seal, count items, photograph) protects both sender and traveler in a dispute.
- •Parcels without accurate declarations, and those packed inadequately for the transport mode, are outside coverage.
